A good photo or design is half the battle. Follow these tips to get the best out of your mug print.
- File format: PNG preferredPNG files work particularly well as they support transparent backgrounds. JPG also works fine – just make sure the resolution is at least 150 dpi.
- Bright images, rich coloursHigh-contrast, bright designs look their best on white mugs. Underexposed or dull photos lose brilliance during printing.
- White designs for black mugsOn a dark background, only light designs stand out. Dark images disappear – choose high-contrast graphics instead.
- Magic Mug: keep it clear and boldFor the Magic Mug, the higher the contrast and clarity of your design, the more spectacular the reveal effect when you pour in a hot drink.
- Panorama: think landscapeThe Panorama Mug offers a wrap-around print area – use it for wide landscape photos or group shots.
- Leave space around the handleDon't place key elements of your design too close to the edge – the handle covers part of the mug's surface.
- Font size of at least 14ptText under 14pt can become hard to read once printed. Clear, sans-serif fonts give the best results.
- Travel Mug: keep it compactThe printable area on the Travel Mug is a little narrower – go for a central, compact design without edge elements.

Which image file works best for mug printing?
We recommend PNG or JPG with a resolution of at least 150 dpi. PNG works particularly well for cut-out designs with no background. Bright, high-contrast images give the best print results.
Can I put my personalised mug in the dishwasher?
For the best durability, we recommend hand washing with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Dishwasher cycles can affect the print over time.
How quickly will my mug be delivered?
Your mug is typically produced within 1–2 working days of ordering. Total delivery time is usually 1–3 working days.
How does the Magic Mug work?
The Magic Mug appears completely black when cold. As soon as you pour in a hot drink (around 70°C or hotter), your design becomes visible – and disappears again as it cools.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No – there's no minimum order at Shirtinator. You can order a single mug or larger quantities for events and corporate gifts.
Can I get a full wrap-around print on a mug?
Yes – the Panorama Mug is made for exactly that: a wrap-around print area for wide-angle photos, group shots or multiple designs.
Can personalised mugs go in the microwave?
The Mug, Panorama Mug, Two-Tone Mug and Large Mug are all microwave-safe. The Magic Mug is the exception – the microwave and dishwasher would permanently damage the colour-change effect.
